The Shropshire town of Dawley is now a part of the borough of Telford, but it once had a rural setting and was recorded in the 1086 Domesday Book when divided into Dawley Magna and Dawley Parva. The Shrewsbury News and Cambrian Reporter reported on a number of minor Flat Race meetings which took place in Shropshire, one of which was in the village of Dawley. The first two day meeting was staged on Monday 6th and Tuesday 7th September 1847 at which the Steward was St John C Charlton and the Clerk of Course A Hughes. Racing continued for the next 2 years until a final meeting on Tuesday 4th September 1849. |
